The 2023 recipient of the Excellence in Safety Award is Asphalt Foreman, Raul Cortes. Raul starts each shift by holding a safety meeting with his crew, where he discusses day-to-day operations and safety hazards. To ensure his crew members understand how to address these safety hazards, Raul hosts meetings in both English and Spanish. “Raul holds the best safety meetings of all the foremen, in my opinion,” says Terry Richardson, Asphalt Safety Manager. According to Doug Wooten, our Safety Director, Raul was one of the top compliant asphalt foremen in 2023 and has developed into a strong leader who focuses on safety while also maintaining productivity.
